Luton Hoo Show

Alex and Debbie from Luton's Cutting Corner were on hand recently to help out at the 1st fashion show to be held at Luton's newest hotel, Luton Hoo.

The McMillan charity had the last show, before the former stately home closed down in 1999 and we were more than happy to help out, doing all the hair backstage, at the very elegant 5 star hotel.

Boltons of Hertfordshire provided the designer clothes and the McMillans committee worked tirelessly to raise thousands for the charity.

Alex and Debbie's work went down a storm and we're now looking for more opportunities to showcase our team and their exceptional skills.

Starring on Stage

When Nanomax asked Jez and the team from The Cutting Corner to appear on stage at this year's Salon International, they jumped at the chance of joining teams from previous British Hairdressers of the year, Nicky Clarke and Lisa Shepherd, in promoting this world class treatment.

Salon International is held every year at London's Excel and showcases the best products and talent to hairdressers from across the globe.

The world bosses of Nanomax, Karla and Jorge Milla, were there as well as Uk MD Mark Holmes. Jez and his team worked in partnership with the UK’s technical and sales directors to spread the message and help Nanomax attract the top 10% of salons into their fold.

Helping Jez on stage were our newest Graduate Hairdesigner Louise - 19, and Assistants Shelley - 19, Sam - 19, Natalie - 18 and Courtz - 17. The girls worked tirelessly for 2 days providing non-stop demonstrations of the complete range of hair repair and enhancing treatments and delighted dozens of models with the stunning results.

Although the stage work was a new experience to our girls, being so experienced with Nanomax gave them extra confidence and they were able to promote themselves, Nanomax and The Cutting Corner competing for audience attention with the likes of Tony & Guy and Vidal Sassoon's art teams.

Jez said the benefits the girls would receive would be immeasurable, ‚The confidence our girls will get from this opportunity will show in all aspects of their work. It really stretches you and the buzz from demonstrating to and impressing a crowd is incredible!‚ He added, ‚This is another way of giving our team The Ultimate Hairdressing Experience!‚

It has left The Cutting Corner's young team wanting more and by the sound of the feedback from Nanomax their will be lots more opportunity.

Commenting on The Cutting Corner's contribution to a fantastic weekends promotion, a Nanomax spokesperson said, ‚Please accept our thanks and please pass them on to your team (what lovely girls and a great credit to your salon I'm sure), who also put in a huge, much appreciated effort.

Jez finished the weekend off by treating Karla Milla, (Wife of Worldwide Nanomax Boss Jorge) to a 3D Shine treatment. Karla told Jez how delighted she and Jorge had been with The Cutting Corner and that there would be more opportunities in the future including maybe even taking part in the next DVD they are going to produce.

Another UK 1st Achieved

The Cutting Corner has achieved another UK 1st by being the 1st salon in the country to gain an Investor In People Profile Assessment.

Profile shows an organisation exactly how good they are and where they can focus for further improvements. There are 4 levels within the Profile Standard, Level 1 being the Investor In People Standard (IIP) and the further levels represent organisations exceeding the requirements of IIP to those organisations whose performance in certain areas is exceptional, (Level 4).

The Cutting Corner, Luton's only Investor In People salon, achieved a Level 4 in Reward & Recognition and is the 1st organisation to achieve this in the East of England.

Jez Barnett, the salon's owner said, I'm absolutely delighted to have achieved such a high standard and to be the 1st salon in the UK to do so. The team's been working really hard over the last few years to make The Cutting Corner ‚The place to be for both the team and the clients. We've had huge success with our innovative services like Nanomax and Inspire, but that's only been possible with a great focus on training throughout the team and everyone in the salon working towards the same goals. This award is a fantastic recognition of all their hard work and dedication in providing our clients with the highest level of skills and service in Luton.

After such a fantastic result, The Cutting Corner has now been asked to take part in a Case Study for IIP UK.

As for the future, Jez says It's very exciting, but then he always says that!
